Scott’s thoughts: “I arrived at Snetterton in a good place after my successful weekend at Knockhill. I was relaxed, confident, happy and ready to go. Following another strong weekend, I remain in a good place and I’m already fired up for Brands in a few weeks.
At Snetterton we were on a good pace from the outset and at the end of Friday we were in P4 but with less than a 10th of second splitting the top 5 riders. Qualifying went well but the BMW’s seemed to have the pace on the Honda’s and I qualified in 8th place. Not fantastic but I was happy with what I’d done, and I was confident I could run with the front pack. Overnight, we got some help from a few friendly experts to analyse our data and change some settings in the electronics to try to improve my drive off the turns. We’re still learning this new bike and without any testing, we’re playing catch up at every round.
It’s a long weekend with only one race and with very long gaps between sessions, it makes it harder to stay focused when you have so much time to kill but I got involved in some PR and fan activity to pass the time which resulted in some great TV coverage on Sunday. TNT Sports featured my interview prior to the race and Shakey also interviewed me in pitlane before the re-start. It’s so nice to see all the support we’re getting as the “underdog team”. It really helps me to have this support so thank you. If you get the chance, please do watch it back on TNT.
Onto the race, I started well from row 3, got into 3rd at turn 1 and was settling in when the red flag came out after a few laps. On the re-start, I got another great start into 3rd and then pushed super-hard from there. It was clear that the BMW’s had the edge on us all this weekend, on lap record pace with more power, speed and superior aero so it became a race to be the top Honda, with Luke Mossey. I can honestly say I could not have ridden that bike any harder with super-strong lap times throughout. I pushed to stay with Luke when he came past and together, we were closing in on the BMW’s but we ran out of laps. I was in P4 right to the last corner when we ran out of fuel and I coasted to the line in 6th. The extra laps needed for the re-start had used up our fuel margin. It was a strong result despite the hiccup and it’s held me at 3rd place in the Championship.
It’s becoming more and more clear that our little private team is grabbing the attention of the paddock which is the ultimate aim and we’re getting so much support from everyone, as a result. We’re battling against teams with a host of engineers around them and with Dad, Fergie, the boys and a handful of sponsors, we’re still able to be up there, which is so satisfying. Thank you, again, to everyone who helps me and let’s go again at Brands in a few weeks!”
